Marquesa de Alorna Grande Reserva Tinto
Marquesa de Alorna results from unique weather conditions and the selection of the best grape varieties each year. Four grape varieties from Charneca and the transitional area between Lezíria and Charneca gave rise to this 2019 harvest.
In general, the year 2019 was dry. In spring, there was some precipitation at the right moment of plant development, resulting in a generous yield with very healthy grapes. The months leading up to the beginning of the harvest had mild temperatures during the day, not exceeding 30-35ºC, and cold nights, leading to slow and balanced ripening, and consequently, wines with a perfect balance between natural acidity and sugar content in the must.
Manual harvesting of grapes using integrated production methods into 18 kg boxes. Complete destemming with gentle crushing, inoculation with selected yeast, and short pump-overs during alcoholic fermentation. Gentle pressing at low pressure to extract only the finest tannins. After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, 80% of the wine ages in new French oak barrels for 14 months. The best barrels are selected, blended, and then bottled. The wine further matures in the bottle for a minimum period of 2 years.
