Quinta da Alorna Reserva das Pedras Tinta Miúda
The Reserva das Pedras wines are born in old vineyards planted 35 years ago on the milenar terroir of Charneca*. Committed to respecting our heritage, these iconic vineyards are located where the beds of the Tejo river passed, with the round stones and pebbles leaving their mark. This unique terroir allows for the elegant and fresh profile of these wines that truly express the harmony between the soil, the climate, and the plants. In order to decide the harvest time with precision, we value maturation control, taking frequent samples from the vineyards. We evaluate and cross-check various parameters beyond the essential ones with the objective of achieving the superior quality of these wines. Our intervention in the cellar is minimal, so all the potential of the terroir can express itself in the most natural way possible. In the cellar, fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures. This Reserva das Pedras ages 70% in used French oak barrels for 12 months. Before bottling, the product is stabilized and filtered. Bottled in 2022.
*Charneca - One of the three terroirs found on the Tejo wine region, it is a sandy soil, light textured and grainy, composed of sand (70%) and clay (15%), very poor and non water-retaining.
Producer: Quinta da Alorna
Winemaker: Martta Reis Simoes
Region: Tejo
Style: Red
Grape Varietals: Tinta Miúda
Tasting Notes: Intense Ruby color. Impressing the entire concept of this wine in aromatic terms, the fresh menthol aroma takes us to the location of the vineyard, surrounded by eucalyptus trees. Well integrated are the specific and black fruit aromas. It presents a note of wild flowers very typical of this Tinta Miúda da Charneca. Subtle, silky mouth with a very round and intense tannin. A fine, elegant profile where the acidity is notable and the aftertaste is pleasant.
