CARM

Casa Agricola Roboredo Madeira, a legacy that traces its roots back to the 17th century, exemplifies the enduring commitment of the Roboredo Madeira family to the land. Situated in the pristine landscapes of the Douro Superior and Beira Interior regions, this family project has flourished, nurturing almonds, olives, and grapes with a profound reverence for nature and the people inhabiting this region. In their time-honored vineyards, some of which have stood proudly for over a century, passion for the land finds its truest expression.

Guiding this rich heritage into the present is Celso Madeira, the founder, and his youngest son, Filipe Roboredo Madeira. Their winemaking journey, spanning the end of the last century, boldly defies the rustic and robust norms typically associated with these regions. Casa Agricola Roboredo Madeira, often referred to as CARM, is distinguished by a philosophy that seeks to craft wines with character. Their approach gracefully marries the essence of the local terroir with an international finesse, resulting in wines marked by elegance, balance, and refreshing vitality.

Central to their ethos is an unwavering commitment to sustainable practices. Virtually all of their vineyards are cultivated using organic methods, free from the use of chemicals, where revitalized soils flourish enriched solely with organic matter. In their state-of-the-art winery, erected in 2004, cutting-edge technology harmoniously blends tradition and innovation in the grape processing.

CARM's agricultural endeavors have always centered on the region where the Douro River commences its journey, exclusively within Portuguese borders. This very region marks the genesis of the oldest demarcated wine region, the Demarcated Douro and Port Wine Region. Their unwavering goal remains consistent—to craft premium olive oils and wines, sourced exclusively from their estates. These estates encompass approximately 150 acres of almond orchards, 545 acres of olive groves, and 495 acres of vineyards, all nestled around the charming village of Almendra. This locale, residing in the heart of the Upper Douro, finds itself enveloped by the Côa Valley Archaeological Reserve, celebrated for its exceptional terroir.

Quinta das Marvalhas, a jewel in their crown, serves as the chosen site for CARM's olive oil mill and a cutting-edge winery. Its commanding vistas overlook the vast expanse of olive groves and vineyards in Almendra, a region renowned for its fertile soils, ideal for nurturing high-quality wines and olive oils. Encompassing an expansive 175 acres, this estate graces schist terrains, predominantly facing northeast and south, with elevations ranging from 160 to 450 meters.

In the art of winemaking, CARM adorns their canvas with a rich palette of grape varieties. For their white wines, Gouveio, Viosinho, Rabigato, Syria, Moscatel Galego, and Códega do Larinho take center stage. Red wines, on the other hand, embrace a harmonious ensemble of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz, enriched by the subtle nuances of Tinto Cão, Sousão, and Tinta Francisca. In the realm of rosé, the grape of choice is Touriga Nacional, painting a vibrant tapestry of flavors.
