Casa Redondo

Founded in 1940, J. Carranca Redondo, Lda. is the force behind Licor Beirão, a cherished liqueur rooted in a captivating history that predates its official inception. It all began in a Lousã pharmacy over a century ago, long before it donned the name Beirão.

The narrative unfolds thus: In the late 19th century, a traveling Port Wine salesman, enchanted by the pharmacist's daughter in Lousã, embarked on a romantic journey that culminated in marriage. Within their pharmacy, amid medicinal potions, "natural liqueurs" derived from age-old secret formulas were offered.

However, a law soon forbade attributing medicinal properties to liqueurs. Seizing this opportunity, the enterprising suitor ventured into independent production, employing the same artisanal techniques within a modest factory.

Although J. Carranca Redondo Lda. officially took shape in 1940, the legacy of Licor Beirão had already been established. Today, whether in a restaurant or at a bar in Portugal, you'll commonly find patrons savoring Licor Beirão. It has rightfully earned the esteemed title of "The Liqueur of Portugal" due to its enduring heritage and more.

The alchemy of Licor Beirão unfolds at Quinta do Meiral in Lousã, Coimbra district, Portugal. Encompassing over 12 hectares, some of the aromatic plants and seeds used in its formulation are cultivated on-site, ensuring stringent quality control. Additional ingredients are sourced from far-flung corners of the globe, including India, Sri Lanka, Brazil, Turkey, and beyond.

It's the founder's son and grandchildren who skillfully craft the distinctive flavor and aroma of Licor Beirão, preserving a closely guarded family recipe. This secret elixir encompasses 13 carefully selected plants, seeds, and spices, lending the liqueur its unparalleled character.

This libation materialized during a century when the most audacious dreams were beginning to materialize, thanks to technological advancements.

Every year, millions of bottles are imbued with a human touch, from harvesting the ingredients to blending the secret mixture and the scrupulous bottling process. The enchanting tale of Licor Beirão originates in a realm brimming with magic, steeped in sentimentality, and veiled in secretive recipes that continue to captivate generation after generation.
